Note: Insurance companies do not disclose the “allowed amount”, the maximum dollar figure they will pay per session, in advance. There may be a gap between your therapist’s fee and the allowed amount, and the exact reimbursement figure typically won’t be known until the first claim is processed. Claim processing timelines vary between insurance companies, but typically take 3-6 weeks. Patients can call the member services number on the back of their insurance card to ask about the allowed rate (also called the “usual and customary rate”) for behavioral health services by asking about CPT codes 90834 and 90837, which are what we use most frequently.
